The renowned luxury shopping district Madison Avenue in New York welcomes its 3rd annual Madison Avenue Watch Week, dating from April 8th to 13th, 2013. On April 8th, the Chinese tour operators’ “Watch Boutiques Tour” organized by Shang Magazine, in cooperation with the main host of the Watch Week, Madison Avenue Business Improvement District (BID), has been one of the successful debuts of the celebration.

Madison Avenue is the largest fine watch marketplace in North America, and home to the world’s premier timepiece flagship boutiques. According to the official website of the celebration, now in its third year, Madison Avenue Watch Week is a celebration of haute horology for collectors and connoisseurs, featuring artisan demonstrations; new watch previews and launches; discussions with watchmakers; presentations regarding trends in design, manufacturing and mechanism technology; and private VIP sales appointments.

Dr. Matthew Bauer, Director of Madison Avenue BID, told Shang reporter that the goal of the celebration is to peak the interest of serious watch collectors, as well as to spark the interest in watch collecting of some starters in collection; and this event has drawn tremendous attention from a good number of serious watch collecting blogs and websites, besides the reports on Wall Street Journal, the co-sponsor of the Watch Week.

Shang Magazine is a luxury publication targeting the Chinese-speaking top wealthy and high-end tourists and shoppers in America. Shang is also well-known for its strong link with Chinese tour operators who all have tens of thousands of Chinese tourists and shoppers behind them. Based on Shang’s strong suits, a multiply beneficial cooperation has been set between Shang and Madison Avenue BID. The “Watch Boutiques Tour” organized by the two Parties aimed to educate the Chinese tour operators with more brand knowledge and therefore enable them to better serve their clients, and eventually stimulate the blooming of the American luxury market.

Mr. Chip Henderson, Boutique Manager of Girard Perregaux on Madison, said that they have a strong willingness to connect with the Chinese tourists in America; and as China continues to open, more Chinese people are seeking luxury goods, this makes the Chinese tourists market in luxury really optimistic; to react this, to work with the tour operators introduced by Shang to suit the needs of Chinese shoppers as much as they can becomes one of their sales policies.

Mr. Tong Fengqiang, one of the participating tour operators, said he never missed any of Shang’s series brand events for he had been really benefitted from them, and after the events he could explain to the Chinese shoppers more professionally, and many times he directly took them to the boutiques to see the exhibits. Like his colleagues, he declared he would continue to enthusiastically participate in the similar events organized by Shang.

The tour was concluded joyfully by a cocktail party attended by all tour participants at a VIP lounge, specially provided by the five star Hotel Plaza Athenee New York, which is also one of the portal luxury lodgers for Chinese tourists.
